Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't

Well it's been a tough time trapping lately. Friday night, I decided to put out the traps and leave them out over night since my colony cats are so smart. I was keeping my hopes up and my fingers crossed to see what would happen. Well I woke up bright and early, a 6am rise, and my trapping was successful, well in a matter of speaking.....

I caught me some baby raccoons. There is a mom and her 5 babies that roam around here at night and well I caught two of the babies. Although, I was sad I was unsuccessful trapping cats, I was glad that if I did have to catch raccoons that I least caught two and not just one that way they can be together. As soon as I released them, they joined each other right away as their bond is very strong. They climbed the tree and top of a roof of a garage and started to call out for their momma, so I got the hell out of there. I guess better luck next time.

Kittens, Kittens, Kittens

These special and absolutely beautiful kittens were dumped in the alley in a garbage can. Thankfully we found them. However, they now need to be admitted into a no kill shelter so they can have a chance at a forever home. Please make a donation today so they can be vetted, which makes it easier to be admitted. With your donation of $30.00 or more you can even name one of them. Please help these kitties find their forever home and have a chance at a great life!

Jerome being TNR'd

Here is a picture of Jerome Sunday morning right before the moment of his release. It was hard to say good bye to this great young lil' chap. I think we both had reservations and didn't want to say goodbye, but knew it was that time. Sometimes the "release" part of TNR is the hardest part. I look forward to spending more time with him and promise to give frequent updates.

And now the moment we have both been waiting for..Release

One thing that makes it just a little bit easier, he already had a friend watching and waiting for him. Until we meet again my furry friend...

Me and My Cinders- A mom and her son's mid life crisis

So when I got home from work tonite, I found my full pk of eyeshadow broken all over the floor. When I saw it, I thought to myself that doesn't look like much, no way is that a full compact worth, huh, I wonder where did the rest go.....la tee da, la tee da, time to clean, scoop poop, feed the furries, etc....An hour later, I see my little boy Cinders and at first glance I noticed right away he doesn't look himself. I instantly got this sense of panic, oh my god, my baby's color is off (for those of you who don't know Cinders is young, but has had some serious health issues the past 2yrs so I'm extremely protective). I grabbed him right away to look him over and I start to observe him and I think....no, it couldn't be, is it? let me grab some toilet paper and see...it sure is. Well apparently As you can see from the pictures, I guess Cinders is going through a md-life crisis just like his mommy and wanted to color his grey hair up. Not just yesterday and today I said I'm going to have to start dying my hair since the grey is coming in. Well I guess Cinders said if it's good enough for mom, it's good enough for him. God, I love him! Cats are just so damn smart!!!! He is definitely a cat after his own mother.

Oh, and if you haven't figured it out yet. This is where the extra eyeshadow went. He colored his self brown.

After

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!

Trapping Nights

I tried trapping all night Friday to have no success. My colony cats are just way too smart. I attempted yet again tonight to have the same unfortunate outcome as Friday. Princess Queen Heather has been hanging around quite a bit. She is the first cat to come running when I bring the nightly food out, but not only that, she has made her presence known to me during the day. When I come home from work she is laying there in the sun waiting for me, and I have also seen her at my 5:30am doggie duties. Now, only if she would be so kind to go into the trap for me instead of laying next to it like she did tonight. At least I can say not only is she beautiful, but she has the brains too! I guess the battle of the Heathers will have to go on for one more day.

Northerly's Happy Ending

This is Northerly and this is Northerly's story...

I found Northerly on the way home from work (6/4/09) running across North Ave almost getting hit by a car. I ran after her. She went into a pair of bushes in the Walgreen's parking lot. I sat with her, petted her, and made sure she didn't go anywhere. I kindly asked a kid walking by if I gave him $ if he would go in the store and buy a can of canned cat food for me. He obliged. I placed the food in the bushes so she was hidden away, this is right next to not only a ridiculous busy street but a popular bus stop also. So I ran home in my heels with my laptop in tow to get a trap. Since she was friendly, I decided to scruff her and gently place her in the trap. She was spayed and given her shots, microchipped, dewormed, etc on Friday, June 5. Unfortunately, Northerly was pregnant at the time of her trapping so I had her aborted. As you can see, if we didn't trap there would have been even more kittens/cats on the street. Northerly is so sweet and loves to be petted and give and receive love. As you can see from these pictures she is very happy. She was admitted to the No kill shelter Tree House Humane Society and is currently up for adoption awaiting to find herself a forever home. Could it be with you?

Trapping Night

So tonight I decided spur of the moment that I would try to trap. My plan was to blog play by play of what was happening. So I set the traps and took a picture.

Since my laptop takes so long to start up, courtesy of the city of chicago, I decided to check the traps real quick before I started and well, little did I know it, that not soon enough as I was warming up my laptop, I was having a visitor, a new visitor in fact, one that I haven't ever seen before..... this beautiful new darling was just sitting there in the trap looking at me thinking "what the hell just happened?!" This wonderful surprise will be neutered or spayed this Thursday morning and than will be released on Friday if it's a boy or on Saturday if it's a girl. My guess.... it's a boy.

A Special Thanks to all of you who donated. It is you who made trapping this cat possible. One down, and so many more to go!

New addition to the Colony and Update

This is a picture of a new male addition to the colony. He has recently just started coming around the past couple of weeks. He is still intact and will need to be neutered soon. As you can see he has the typical chubby cheeks of an un-neutered male. Please help get him TNR'd and make a donation today.

Here is another picture of the cat, whom I believe to be female, that I would like to try to trap right away, due to strips of hair missing on her back and ears. I have become quite protective of her. As she ate last night, I stood there quietly the whole time to the side so the other 4 cats that were there waiting would not disrupt or bother her at all. I believe she senses my protectiveness and therefore is the reason that she did not run away as I stood there. Please make a donation today so we can help her get the medical attention she needs.

John Christopher a TNR

This is John Christopher one of the male cats in my feral colony. I trapped him on 5/31/09. He was than neutered, microchipped, and given his shots on 6/2/09 and than released on 6/3/09. As you can see he is doing just fine and was waiting for me tonight for his nightly feeding.

Help this cat

This beautiful black long haired beauty is one of the new cats in my feral colony. At feeding time tonight, I noticed that multiple big strips of hair are missing, possibly from a cat fight, dog attack, or a medical condition. The cat's demeanor seemed to be okay, but the cat should seek medical attention and be spayed/neutered very soon. Please help me to help this cat get the care it needs and make a donation today. All donation amounts are accepted. Also, please see details on my web blog page on how you can have the chance to name this cat.
